Gangshow 2005 !!

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you to all cast, team, backstage crew, in fact anyone who helped to make
this year’s show a pleasure to be part of. It was also nice to welcome new cast members from Sleaford
District.
All the months of hard work really paid off and everyone should feel really proud of themselves. Here’s to the next one !!
Judy
An escaped Gorilla ?
Police were called to the Theatre Royal on Friday after reports that a gorilla had escaped and was
running amok on stage, dressed in only a towel. A police spokesman said, “After questioning, Mr
Neil Mahon was able to assure us he is not a gorilla, but is simply extremely hairy !”

The Band(s) !
All the moaning, shouting and hours of practice paid off. Despite sounding a little shaky during practices, Lincoln District Scout Band pulled out all the stops when it counted, and gave a fantastic stage performance. I was delighted with the way that the Scout Band played on stage and I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of them for their commitment and hard work - job well done!!! However, the pressure isn't off just yet, as we are booked to play in the Arboretum on 13 March for the Lincoln Free Weekend, so we'll be practising hard for that straight away.

In particular, my special thanks go out to the 9 band members who formed the Pit Orchestra for this Gang Show. It's a real tale of how Scouts and Scouters solve problems and triumph against all the odds. When I first suggested putting together a live band to accompany Gang Show, Judy was a bit sceptical, after all, Lincoln District Scout Band have a bit of a reputation for being LOUD! However, Judy soon came around to the idea and I started selecting players and preparing to arrange the music.
But life doesn't always go to plan ! Towards the end of August, my wife dislocated her ankle and badly broke the two bones in her lower leg. This left me with all the housework, cooking etc at home, as well as a full time job and my commitment to the Scout Band. Regretfully, I had no alternative but to back out of the role of Musical Director for Gang Show. That was the right decision for me, because 4 months after the accident, Teresa's leg still wasn't starting to heal, and is giving her a lot of pain even now.
Luckily Judy found someone willing to step in as Musical Director at the eleventh hour, and under Ewan's direction, the pit orchestra gave a great performance. It was wonderful to hear such numbers as "Love Can Build a Bridge" as well as our old favourites like "Crest of a Wave" sung to the accompaniment of a live band. I could not have hoped for better. I am very proud of you all. Thank you.

In the middle of last year, my sister and I were cajoled into selling the advertising space in the programme. As is usual in the Scout movement, it didn't end there, I then had to write to everyone in
the District, write to old people’s homes and place posters in shop windows in the whole of the County encouraging people to travel from far and wide to see the show. Just before Christmas, I decided that as I was taking my two grandchildren to the YMCA every Sunday afternoon, I might as well stop and join in the fun myself. I must say it was the best idea I had had in a long time ! Everyone was most welcoming and although it was very hard work for the organisers, everyone was having a great time. I then spent the whole of Gang Show underneath the stage with Carol Otter and her gang helping the Beavers and Cubs get changed between scenes. What a wonderful atmosphere there was ! I would like to say to anyone who was in the audience watching the show, saying to themselves "I wish I was up there with them !", next time you are invited to audition, take the plunge and give it a go. You won't regret it Well done to all the kids, adults, back stage, wardrobe and especially JUDY. Take a breath, sit down and wind down, you deserve it.

I wanted to write a short piece to say big thank you to everyone who took part in "Gang show 2005". Everyone made it a great show; there were times when I thought, “Will it ever come together ?”. I don’t know why I had so many sleepless nights worrying, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did, I hope you will want to join in again next time.
To all the people who came to watch a big thank you. I hope you enjoyed the show ! Maybe some of you may want to join us next time, it’s hard work but you really get a great buzz when you see all those smiling faces.
Once again a big bravo to all who made this a fantastic show.

What a great show ! Thanks to everyone for making it so much fun and for working so hard. As with the other shows there will be a lot of happy memories from this show. Some of the things I will remember with a smile are:-
• Judy skipping round with the smallest Beaver at rehearsals
• Sandra, Linda and myself cooling off in the dressing room during the interval
• Sharon giving Sandra a face lift that resulted in Sandra bearing an uncanny resemblance to Bjork
• trying hard not to fall in the pit while dancing in flippers and THAT banana (if you were there on the Saturday night you will know what I mean, thanks Albert and Clive !)
Special thanks to Pete (or was it Phil ?) for the unexpected rose on Saturday
Elaine
Hi,
I would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Gang Show. It was great. I went along to the Thursday performance with my husband (who is not involved in Scouting) and we both thoroughly enjoyed the show. The enthusiasm and enjoyment of the cast certainly came across. Well done.

Cause for concern ?
We couldn’t help but notice that 3 of the “ladies” in the Queen “I want to break free” sketch were all
ex-Birchwood Scouts. Now we don't want to read too much into this, (apparently Swot always arrived at rehearsals already wearing make-up !) but we are now urgently reviewing our Troop programme !!
