(27 July to 8 August 2007 - only 16 months away and counting !)
The Jamboree is getting nearer !!!!! Forty thousand campers from all over the
world will be attending ! This jamboree is open to members of The Scout Association or Girlguiding UK who are aged between 14 and 17 years on 27 July 2007 (born between 28 July 1989 and 27 July 1993). This age range is set by the organisers and is reflected in the activities offered; it is therefore essential to observe it when selecting possible participants
Money mustn't be a barrier, we will make sure that through fundraising and grants, every member in the right age range at least gets the chance to be selected. The important thing is that as many as possible get the chance to be one of the 36 lucky people from our area who can attend this once in a lifetime opportunity
Can you please forward all names of Scouts / Explorers who are interested as quickly as possible to
Angie or Sharon
thanks - Judy Sylvester

OUR SCOUTING FRIENDS FROM BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA have told us, “It was great to hear from you after six days without power or communications and a big thank you to all our friends in Lincoln for your concern as we go through a traumatic time after the hurricane. We were lucky in Baton Rouge and came off very lightly compared with others around us. We have had a lot of folks from South Louisiana coming in to Baton Rouge and it’s now beginning to put a real strain on the city’s resources. There is a general shortage of gasoline and the telecom system is very over-taxed.” Steve Beatty, the Scout leader, has seen most of the Scouts and their families who came over to Lincoln and he will get them to drop all the host families a line to say they are okay and to give them some general news. Steve really appreciates the concerns from their Lincoln friends as it will be some time before they get back to normal in Baton Rouge. A large tree hit Steve's Scout HQ, leaving them with a hole in their roof where they store their camping equipment. However, it could have been a lot worse. Steve's Scout troop has been out on the ground supporting the families, helping out where they can in true Scouting spirit
HURRICANE RITA - “There is no good news and soon after the first hurricane, follows another one. The weather is foul and Baton Rouge this time is on the east side of the storm which is much stronger than the last one and fortunately it appears to have landed further away than Katrina. We are having lots of rain and winds up to 50 mph, it’s been raining all day and is set to continue for a further 24 hours.” (Later) “Well the storm has passed and we had no power again for 24 hours, lots of trees down and all in getting of light again for the second time. Baton Rouge has been lucky with both storms and we just caught the outside edge of both Katrina to the east and Rita to the west. New Orleans has been breached again with more flooding, having just got all the water pumped out. Having had two hurricanes in a short time it’s going to take longer to get back to normal in
general.”
Our thoughts from Lincoln are with them during what has been a very traumatic time for not just our Scouting friends, but everyone who has been affected
EUROJAM 2005 - Being selected to join a team of three thousand International service team
members has got to be like a dream come true for me as the District International Advisor to join some 10,000 Scouts and Guides from 57 different countries around the world. As part of the logistic team I was picking Scouts up from Gatwick and the main assemble area some forty five minutes away. Moving Scouts and Guides in took 36 hours through day and night with buses coming and going all hours and as many as ten a time. The movement of 3,000 young pe ople every day to three different locations for activities was a major task using some 67 coaches and bring them back at the end of the day. I met some many people from different countries learning about their culture,
country and food. I have never seen so many people having fun, enjoyment and having a great time making new friends and meeting old friends
21st World Jamboree will be even bigger in 2007 with an anticipated 42,000 Scouts and Guides from a 100 different countries !!!!
